We hope you enjoy exploring pkc.gov.uk. This page provides some
information about how the site is structured, how to find your way
around and how to get more help if you should need it. If you have
any problems or questions which aren't covered by this page please

Browsers, screen resolutions and web standards
http://www.pkc.gov.uk/ has
been designed to function with any web browser, but will work best
with browsers which have reasonable support for web standards. We
recommend using Firefox for Windows, a
free browser produced as part of the Mozilla Project, and Safari
for users of Apple Macs. The site will work well with recent
versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. We support the work of the
Web Standards
Project.
We have tried to design the site to make it functional
in text browsers such as Lynx, and with mobile devices such as
PDAs.
The site is designed to function on graphical browsers at a
minimum resolution of 800x600 pixels, but will work best at
resolutions of 1024x768 or higher.
Accessibility
We have tried to make pkc.gov.uk accessible to all, and
have aimed to meet or exceed the provisions of the WCAG (Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines) Conformance Level "AA". The site uses
CSS for almost
all layout and styling, any of which can be overridden by users.

The default text size used on the site can be altered by using
the text-size controls in your browser.
Some pages on the Perth & Kinross Council’s website
contain audio and video clips.
Watching video clips
Video clips on this website will either be in Windows Media
Video (WMV) or Audio Video Interleave (AVI) format.
Windows Media Player will play both of these formats. Windows Media Player is free to download if
you do not have a version installed on your computer.
Listening to audio files
Audio clips on this website are in mp3 format. To listen
to audio files or watch video clips, you will need a media player
installed on your computer. If your computer does not have a
media player, you can download a free player by selecting one of
the links below:
There are two ways you can listen to audio files.
- Download the MP3 file to your computer
Right-click on the file, choose "Save target as" or "Save Link As"
depending on your browser, and select where you want to save the
file.
When the download is complete, double-click the saved MP3 file, it
will automatically start your media player and play the file.
- Play the MP3 file from the website
If you want to listen on your PC, just left click on the link and
the file will play in your default media player.

or finding the information you are looking for. Many pages contain
links in the text - follow these to see related
information. Many pages have links organised into
sections to make finding information easier though not
all pages will have these sections.

information.
- Downloads - provides links to related PDF documents that you
can download.
- Related Articles - provides links to related web pages on our
site.
- External Links - provides links to related information on
pages from external web sites.
- Contact Details - provides contact information for the relevant
section of the Council.
In graphical browsers these sections are displayed on the
right hand side of the screen.
Any link with this symbol -
- will take you to away from pkc.gov.uk to
an external website.
Searching
The site can be searched using our
search engine. The site is indexed every night, and searches
will find text inside all web pages and attached documents in
PDF (Portable
Document Format).
A to Z Index and Site Map
The
A to Z Index contains entries for all pages and documents on
the website, organised in convenient alphabetical listings. The
Site Map provides a higher-level view of the site, listing all
the sections of the site and their constituent areas.
Breadcrumbs
To assist you with moving back and forth between the pages there
is a "bread crumb" trail at the top of each page - this starts with
'Home > ...' so you can see the path you have followed to reach
your destination and use it to revisit previous pages. For
example for the 'Data protection and freedom of information
page':

The breadcrumb trail shows that we are in the Law and
Licensing section of the site, viewing the Data protection and
freedom of information page. You can navigate to any lower level at
any time by clicking the links on this breadcrumb trail.
