Food Hygiene

Food hygiene is defined as the measures and conditions necessary to control hazards in food preparation to ensure fitness for human consumption of foodstuffs, taking into account its intended use.

All food businesses must comply with the food hygiene standards  laid down in EU Regulation 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs.

Food Hygiene Inspections are part of the system for ensuring that food meets the requirements of food hygiene and safety law, including microbiological quality, absence of pathogenic micro-organisms and safety for consumption.

All food businesses in Perth and Kinross are inspected as part of an ongoing inspection programme or as a result of a hygiene complaint about a business or a complaint about a specific food item.
