Hygiene Improvement Notice
An authorised food enforcement officer can serve a Hygiene Improvement Notice if there are reasonable grounds for believing that a food business proprietor is failing to comply with food hygiene regulations.
The Notice will specify the contraventions, the appropriate remedial works required and the timescale for completion.The Notice will also contain information on how to appeal against its requirements.
When a Hygiene Improvement Notice has been served, the officer concerned will revisit the food business to confirm that the required improvements have been made within the time scale given.
Failure to comply with the terms of a Hygiene Improvement Notice is an offence which can lead to a fine or imprisonment.
