Complaints about Food

In addition to the regular inspection of food businesses the Food Safety Division also respond to complaints about individual food items purchased in Perth and Kinross.

Complaints can relate to any aspect of the food including the presence of foreign bodies, fitness for consumption, labelling and alleged food poisoning etc.

The purpose of investigation is to establish why the complaint arose and to ensure that manufacturers and producers of food are complying with their duty to provide safe food which complies with all legal standards, in addition to determining whether or not the complaint is sufficiently serious enough to warrant formal enforcement action.

Once a complaint has been made,an officer will contact you to arrange to collect the food or you may bring it to us. We will ask a number of questions relating to the place and time of purchase and whether or not you have proof of receipt.

We will also ask whether the purchase and discovery of the defect in the food was witnessed by anyone else as this will support the possibility of further legal action in respect of the complaint.

If you would like to make a complaint about any food or any sale of food please contact us using any of the options listed on the right.
