Food Standards Inspections

Food Standards inspections are carried out on a risk based frequency dependent on the likelihood of businesses failing to comply with food standards with those premises deemed to pose the greatest risk requiring more frequent inspection.

Inspections focus on key management control points such as the use of specific ingredients and additives to ensure legal compliance.

On completion of the inspection an inspection rating is applied to the individual business depending on their previous history of compliance with food standards requirements and confidence in the business’s quality management system.

The inspection rating assigned to each business dictates the frequency of inspection as follows:

· Category A – not more than 12 months between inspections;
· Category B – not more than  24 months between inspections;
· Category C – not more than 60 months between inspections

All food businesses in Perth & Kinross are included in an ongoing priogramme of Food Standards inspection.
