Economic Development Strategy
The Perthshire Economic Development Strategy is based on
the needs of the people and business needs for Perth
and Kinross and has been devised to effectively
deliver the services that you require.
This new strategy sets out a strategic framework and long-term
vision for jobs and opportunity for the people of Perthshire. The
framework has been developed, and is being delivered, in
partnership with a variety of 'stakeholders' including the private
sector and other agencies that will contribute to delivering the
vision for Perthshire.
Economic Development is a key principle within the New Community
Planning framework for Perth and Kinross and is also seen as a
corporate priority within the Council's Corporate Plan.
The Scottish Executive has provided a national framework for
Economic Development in Scotland. The Perthshire Economic
Development Strategy has been prepared within this context in
conjunction with Partner organisations.
Key Themes
While each partner will develop and action their own areas of
responsibilities, seven key themes which are central to the
development of the new strategy where joint action would be
beneficial have been identified. These seven key themes are:
- Developing technology businesses and industries, research
expertise and product development facilities and encouraging local
companies to embrace new technology and the opportunities that may
provide.
- The encouragement and facilitation of economic diversification,
particularly in rural Perthshire; where local economies are too
narrowly focussed on a few key sectors.
- Providing a single point of contact for businesses. Better
co-ordination of services for business will be developed and the
Business Gateway promoted as a one-stop shop for all
businesses.
- Developing a local skills strategy to ensure the availability
of skilled and well-trained people and to ensure that opportunities
for training, learning and employment are available for all,
facilitating social inclusion.
- Improving the co-ordination of our marketing effort to ensure
Perthshire is recognised as an excellent place to work, live, visit
and do business.
- Develop the appropriate physical infrastructure to allow our
businesses to take full advantage of business opportunities
available to them.
- Improving the interface between the various public sector
economic development agencies and the business community.
All of these seven key themes form the cornerstones of our
strategy, and call for effective joint working and partnership
activity in order to deliver results.
