Sitech Racing
Sitech Racing is owned by Simon Smail and was
formed in May 2008. It is a one-stop-shop for performance and race
cars with services including machining, fabrication and
construction of cars or car parts. The business also manufactures
inlet manifolds and exports all over Europe.
Simon initially operated the business from the his garage at
home until it became quickly apparent that more space was
required due to ever increasing demand. The business then moved
into rented premises in Blair Atholl from where it continues to
successfully operate. The customer base is generally wealthy
individuals with an interest in cars and motorsport travelling from
all parts of Scotland, England and even Ireland, due to the
specialist service.
Before starting Sitech Racing, Simon had
completed four years on the McLaren-Mercedes Formula One Team where
he rapidly moved through the ranks. He started off as a mechanic on
the Test Team where he was responsible for engine, braking and
hydraulics and went on to become the Racing & Test Team Parts
Co-ordinator.
Being involved at the top level of motorsport for many years has
allowed Simon to draw upon a wealth of practical experience no
matter what type of work is required.

"When you come to Sitech
Racing, we don't just fit parts based on what they look
like or how expensive they are but what we know will work best for
your particular application and requirements whether that be for
road or the track." Simon Smail, Sitech

To enable
Sitech Racing to expand its workforce,
further investment in specialist capital equipment was required.
The purchase of an Engine ECU re-programmer would enable them to
re-programme and tune cars electronically after an engine re-build.
Sitech was spending a considerable amount on outsourcing
engineering works, this would help to reduce time and cost to the
business whilst allow Simon to offer further services to
customers. The increase in product and service range would
enable
Sitech Racing to employ a further full time
mechanic, establish itself as an employer within Blair Atholl and
serve to bring new business to the area.

"After speaking to my local Councillor, I
contacted The Business Advisory Team at Perth & Kinross
Council. They were very helpful in offering advice and with guiding
me smoothly through the grant application process. The start up
grant was very useful to my business as it enabled me to purchase
specialist equipment to meet customer demand. I could not have
afforded this equipment without this support and importantly, it
allowed Sitech to take full advantage of business opportunities
much earlier than would otherwise have been possible. |

"I also applied successfully for Perth
& Kinross Council business growth funding. This was put to very
good use in purchasing engineering equipment. This support allowed
me to expand the team and reduce the remaining out-sourced machine
work therefore resulting in considerable cost-savings for the
business. The support offered by Perth & Kinross Council has
certainly helped Sitech Racing to expand and has
resulted in the business doubling its turn-over over the past
year." Simon Smail, Sitech Racing |
