Arts and entertainment
Perthshire has a thriving arts, cultural and entertainment scene
and it holds a unique place in the history of arts and culture in
Scotland.
Our beautiful area is also well-provided for in terms of the visual
and performing arts. Perth & Kinross Council runs the
impressive column-fronted
Perth Museum, and further south down Tay Street can be found
the recently-refurbished
Fergusson Gallery, home to the paintings of the foremost of the
Scottish colourists, J D Fergusson.
Alyth Museum is a small folk museum displaying many typical
facets of past life in rural Perthshire.
Each year in May, Perth itself plays host to the Perth
Festival of the Arts, a festival growing in size and
reputation.
Perth Concert Hall is the newest venue for the performing arts
and Perth Theatre is one of the best-known theatre
venues in Scotland out of the major cities. Pitlochry
Festival Theatre is developing into a year-round facility as
well as being a firm favourite for its traditional summer season.
Smaller community-sized venues such as the Birnam Institute are developing programmes of
variety and quality.
In addition there are hundreds of festivals and events going on
all year round from the regular sessions at the Beinn
Inn, the Glenfarg Folk club and The Twa Tams in Perth to
festivals like the Dreich End, T in the Park
and a myriad of Highland Games.
The Council's
Arts Development Service provides a wide range of arts services
to individuals, communities and schools in Perth and Kinross.
