Housing advice and support

  • Council housing advice - contact your local housing area office to discuss your housing situation in person.
  • Shelter - provides advice and information on homelessness, eviction and repossession.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau - provides access to information and independent advice on your rights including benefits, housing and employment, and on debt, consumer and legal issues.

Homelessness and temporary accommodation

  • Temporary accommodation - Find out about the types of temporary accommodation available from the Council.
  • Homeless advice service - The Council provides a homeless advice service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Housing benefits

Reducing costs

  • Energy Assistance Package - helps to maximise incomes, reduce fuel bills and improve the energy efficiency of homes. It replaces the Central Heating and Warm Deal programmes.
  • Direct Gov - Winter fuel payment - If you are aged 60 or over, you may get a Winter Fuel Payment to help pay for keeping warm in winter.  Find out if you are eligible for this payment and how to apply.

Home repair grants

  • Care and repair - Designed to provide assistance and support to elderly and disabled home owners and private tenants to enable them to repair, adapt or improve their homes.
