Anti-Social Investigation Team

Perth and Kinross Anti Social Investigations Team (A.S.I.T.)

A.S.I.T., formed in May 2004, comprises an Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator, Anti-Social Investigators, a Community Safety Analyst, and a Community Warden team  whose members patrol the housing estates of Letham and Hillyland in Perth.

A.S.I.T. members are trained to deal with Anti-Social Behaviour complaints throughout Perth and Kinross.

Their services are available to anyone (ie not just Council tenants) who are subjected to Anti-Social Behaviour.

If necessary, A.S.I.T. will carry out investigations on behalf of other agencies.

Its investigators recognise how Anti-Social Behaviour can affect victims and will work closely in confidence with them.

Investigators try to establish the cause of the problem, and look at all options to resolve it.

In some cases of Anti-Social Behaviour witnesses may be reluctant to come forward because they are afraid of reprisals.

It is important that the best evidence is produced for a Court but, in some cases, investigators can act as 'professional witnesses' on behalf of other people.

In many cases of neighbour disputes, lack of communication between those involved can increase tensions. It is recommended that every effort is made to discuss problems before they become more serious.

A.S.I.T. works closely with Perth Community Mediation Service. This is available to all residents of Perth and Kinross to help resolve disputes over noise, pets, children, parking, fences and suchlike.

This independent agency uses trained and experienced mediators to try to find a way forward for everyone. The service is confidential, free, and is extending an excellent record of success.

Support for victims

During investigations into anti-social behaviour, support measures for victims and alleged offenders will be fully discussed and Investigators work closely with other Services to see that proper support is being provided.

When necessary, victims of anti-social behaviour can be referred by A.S.I.T. to Victim Support who will help these persons during and after investigations.

Community Warden Service

Community Wardens patrol the housing estates of Letham and Hillyland, Perth, and in many ways become 'the eyes and ears' of the communities.

They work with everyone locally to improve community safety and living standards of residents.

Community Wardens can act as links with other agencies and work closely with, for instance, primary schools in their patrol areas.

Wardens, who are on duty every evening,  can be contacted through the Anti-Social Behaviour Voicemail phone number.

Contact with A.S.I.T..

In the first instance, tenants of Perth and Kinross Council and Housing Associations should report incidents of alleged Anti-Social Behaviour to their local housing office who will be able to help.

Tenants of privately rented accommodation and those who own their own house can contact A.S.I.T. direct for advice or assistance on the 24-Hour Anti-Social Behaviour Voicemail phone number
