Parks and open spaces

Last updated | 08/12/2007

Perth and Kinross possesses some of the finest parks, gardens and open spaces in the country. Some were created as parks in their own right, some were donated, some were former bleaching greens associated with the linen industry, and a few may have been livestock market areas. Whatever their origin we value them greatly, as the centres of our communities.

Management and improvement

There are "friends of parks" groups that look after most of the parks in Perth and Kinross. They are volunteer citizens who put in considerable effort to help make their local park the one everyone wants. On top of this, the council uses sophisticated computer systems to record the condition and performance of parks. We have a computer record of every major tree, every bench, every bin. We also have a plan for improving every major park in Perth and Kinross and are working hard to obtain the funding.

Events

Events take place from time to time - you can see what is happening by looking at the events calander. If you want to run an event on an open space, there is every encouragement to you to do this. You may need a licence eg for fairgrounds etc. Contact Customer first for further information.

Maintenance

We aim to keep the parks safe, clean and well maintained, and conduct regular inspections to ensure standards are maintained.

You can help

Citizens of Perth and Kinross are invited to get involved

  • think about getting involved with your local "friends of parks" at:
    • Victoria Park
    • Larghan Park
    • Kirkgate Park
    • Auchterarder Park
    • Scone Park
    • MacRosty Park
  •  keep an eye out for the safety of others - if you see someone in trouble as a citizen you are entitled to help
  • if you see anyone getting up to no good, have a quiet word with them, or contact the Council.
  • There are still dog owners who do not clear up after their dogs. There are big fines for offenders.
