Child Protection Policy

Perth and Kinross Sports Council have decided to implement to following Child Protection Policy:
As of this date Perth and Kinross Sports Council will require all affiliated clubs and associations, who have members under the age of 18 years, to have in place or work towards a valid Child Protection Policy. The minimum requirement will be per the 2006 Accord for the Protection of Children in Scottish Sport. (Please see enclosed document.) In 2008/09 clubs and  associations will only be eligible for grant funding if they can provide evidence that they have a fully working Child Protection Policy in place. As of 2009/10 onwards only clubs and associations that have a fully working Child Protection Policy in place will be able to affiliate to Perth and Kinross Sports Council.

What does this mean?
If your club currently has members under the age of 18, or if your club could potentially have members under the age of 18, you must have a Child Protection Policy.

What do I have to do?
We have enclosed the minimum operating requirements as outlined by SportScotland. These are summarised below.

  •  Every club should have a child protection co-ordinator.
  •  The club committee must outline a Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
  •  There must be a procedure in place to report and respond to concerns regarding the welfare of a child.
  •  The club must have a disciplinary procedure for managing complaints and concerns.
  •  Recruitment procedures will include a Disclosure Scotland Check.
  •  Child protection training will be offered to all.

Can I get help?
Yes, if you contact Katja Stock, Sports Council Administrator on 01738 477851 then she will answer any questions you may have about the policy. Alternatively we can arrange for someone to come out and visit you club, to assist you with creating a policy and outlining procedures.

Why is this important?
It is our moral and legal responsibility to protect children from abuse, harm and exploitation when they participate in sporting activities. It is up to you to report any concerns you have about the safety of children, and to ensure they are protected within your club. By adhering to a Child Protection Policy you are not only protecting your younger members, you are also protecting yourselves. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Highland Spring have for a number of years worked closely with Perth and Kinross Sports council to provide a monthly award which recognises the talent that exists within our young sportspeople. This award has been relaunched in January 2008!
We believe that it is very important that we continue to encourage these young performers and use them not only as ambassadors of sport but also as excellent role models for other young people.

Each month, Highland Spring will recognise a talented young sports person* by giving them a financial award which contributes towards the training, equipment and travel costs that necessarily accompany success.  (They also do a very good line in goodie bags!)

So if you are a teacher, parent, fellow student or coach and you know a young person that does exceptionally well in sports and you think that he / she deserves to win this award, tell us! Just fill in the form (available for download on the right hand side) and post it to one of the addresses given below.

Every month a winner will be chosen and awarded a cheque for 100 pounds and a Highland Spring Goodie Bag!

(* The limiting age is 18 years.)
