Perth Railway Amateur
Boxing Club (PRABC) is proving a 'knock out' for local youngsters
as they receive the Perth and Kinross Accredited Club Excellence
Scheme (PACES) Foundation award.
The PACES scheme raises the
profile and recognises the hard work delivered by volunteers and
coaches across the area by providing a set of standards that can be
identified by parents, teachers, the general public, facility
managers and operators.
PRABC is the 17th sports
club to gain the award, with over 40 clubs hosting a variety of
sports in Perth and Kinross currently working towards gaining PACES
status.
Founded over 65 years ago,
PRABC is now firmly established at its gym in Perth’s South
Methven Street and throughout its history has boasted an array of
title holders and internationals.
Secretary Bill Anderson has
held this position since 1963, devoting a lifetime to the club and
boxing at all levels. As well as taking on many roles within
the club, Bill has also been the president of the Scottish Amateur
Boxing Association, acted as a time-keeper at two Commonwealth
Games and fought an Olympic champion during his own
career.
Currently the club has over
60 members who take part in training sessions which are held three
times a week. With a thriving junior section of 15 between
the ages of 10-16, the future looks bright for Perth Railway.
Recently the club linked with Perth High School to provide a taster
session for S3/4 Social and Vocational Skills pupils. All
coaches are Disclosure checked and trained to provide suitable fun
and safe activities for youngsters.
The club is always on the
look out for new members and administrators and anyone interested
in the club can contact Bill Anderson on 01738 634593.
