Disability Sport
Disability Sport is a key focus for the Sport & Active
Recretion Service and the Strategic Framework for Sport &
Active Recreation in Perth & Kinross aims to widen
participation by attracting everybody to take part in physical
activity, sport and active recreation. Local partners Live
Active Leisure, Perth Strathtay Harriers and St Johnstone Football
Club are also developing sustainable, inclusive opportunities for
people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities.
The Sports Development Team support and work closely
with
Perth & Kinross Disability Sport, the local
branch of Scottish Disability Sport. The aims of the branch include
co-ordinating, developing and promoting sports/physical activity
amongst people with a disability and to strengthen and extend the
network of contacts/Clubs in the Perth and Kinross area.
Recent developments include facilitating Family Activity Days,
allowing families with children who have a disability and their
siblings to take part in activities together.
Sports which have a particular focus on improving
participation include swimming, athletics, boccia, football,
rugby, cricket and tennis.
