Perth City World Cafe
We wanted to test out a new method of engaging with people and therefore piloted the World Café method in Perth City. The event comprised of five tables with different themes and asked for people’s views. The themes were the Parental Involvement Bill, the Council’s Community Engagement Strategy, public parks/open spaces and the Community Safety Strategy. Each theme was a ‘coffee stop’ where there was a discussion for 30 minutes and a coffee, before moving onto the next table and a new theme.
A selection of community groups, connected with the policy themes, was invited to
participate on a pre-registration basis.
Whilst some of the feedback was specific to the policy areas which has been collated and taken into account, universal feedback from
both community groups and Council staff focussed on the value of the format for
promoting informal dialogue and discussion. This method will now be considered for future events.
