Abernethy Primary School

Background

Designs are almost complete for a major upgrade to Abernethy Primary School. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012 and will last for approximately 18 months, subject to statutory approvals.

During this time the school will be upgraded and extended with new facilities to include seven semi open-plan classrooms complete with 'media wall' storage and additional shared activity spaces, remodelled circulation routes throughout the establishment, a range of additional teaching spaces for class or group work and a nursery with independent access that will accommodate 30 pupils.

The school playing field is to be levelled and the final stages of the project will see the installation of a Multi Use Games Area.

School and Pupils during the building works

During the works, staff and pupils will relocate to temporary modular accommodation constructed on the school playing field.

The project will be conducted in phases:

Phase 1 - scraping and levelling the playing field, followed by the installation of the modular buildings
Phase 2 - pupils and staff will move to the temporary school and the main construction works to upgrade the school will take place
Phase 3 - when the main construction is complete, staff and pupils will return to the school, allowing the modular buildings to be removed and the Multi Use Games Area to be installed

On 11 May 2011 an informal meeting was held in the school to which parents/carers and neighbours were invited. The project plans were on display and members of the design team were on hand to answer queries. The plans may be viewed by following the links to the right of this page.

This website will be regularly updated to provide information on the progress of the project.
