Blairgowrie High School Upgrade
As part of an extensive upgrade programme for those Perth &
Kinross secondary schools that are not part of the Investment In
Learning (IIL) Programme, works at Blairgowrie High School have
commenced.
Phase One
In a joint undertaking between the Scottish Government's 'Schools
of Ambition' initiative and Education & Children's Services,
the Home Economics Department has recently been upgraded to
incorporate a new Training Kitchen and Restaurant. Modelled on
commercial standards, this facility aims to extend curriculum based
vocational training opportunities for pupils.
This first phase of the work was completed by October 2009 and
comprised: -
- Complete refurbishment of toilet blocks and the creation of
disabled toilet facilities;
- Review and upgrading of heating and radiators;
- Review and upgrading of electrical and services
infrastructure;
- Extensive works to ensure that the establishment is made
accessible and compliant with the requirements of relevant
Disability Discrimination legislation.
Phase Two
Phase two of the upgrade programme is well underway with completion
anticipated by end of April 2012. This phase of the work
comprises: -
- Formation of a new bus turning/drop off with additional parking
(completed);
- Refurbishment of two Home Economics rooms (completed);
- Substantial new Additional Support Needs facility incorporating
several spaces for teaching, therapy and lifeskills.
This extension links the existing school buildings providing a
hub for the school, incorporating teaching areas along with
ancillary accommodation.
Consultation
Extensive liaison is ongoing between school Management and
Projects Support Team representatives to ensure that the minimum
amount of disruption is caused to learning and teaching at the
school throughout the construction phases.
