Perth Academy Upgrade
As part of an extensive upgrade programme for those Perth
& Kinross secondary schools that are not part of the Investment
In Learning (IIL) Programme, upgrade works at
Perth Academy are under way and due to be completed in the
coming year.
Phase One
This first phase of the work was completed in 2009 (Science
block lift completed March 2011) and comprised:
- Two fully refurbished science labs, with new custom-designed
and fitted laboratory furniture;
- One partial laboratory refurbishment;
- Full refurbishment of two classrooms;
- Upgrade of one Home Economics room to a fully equipped Home
Economics practical classroom;
- Extensive works to ensure that the establishment is made
accessible and compliant with the requirements of relevant
Disability Discrimination legislation.
The works to improve accessibility involved:
- Review and upgrade of handrails throughout the school;
- Programme to review and replace doors in various areas;
- Formation of external access ramps in various areas;
- Conversion of existing accommodation to create six new
disabled toilets, one of which incorporates a shower;
- Lift to stage area;
- Lift to Science block.
A refurbishment of the school's Fitness Studio was undertaken
and was funded by the school.
Phase Two
Perth Academy sports facilities have been identified as a
priority area for development and funding has been allocated as
part of the budget setting process on 9 February 2012. Further
details and timescales will be provided as the project evolves.
Consultation
Extensive liaison continues to take place between school
management and Projects Support Team representatives to ensure that
the minimum of disruption is caused to learning and teaching at the
school during the construction works.
