Perth Grammar School Upgrade
As part of an extensive upgrade programme for those Perth &
Kinross secondary schools that are not part of the Investment In
Learning (IIL) Programme, upgrade works at Perth Grammar School
have commenced.
Phase One
This first phase of the work was completed in April 2010 and
comprised:
- the complete refurbishment of 4 Science laboratories, with new
custom-designed and fitted laboratory furniture;
- the creation of an additional science laboratory by converting
and refurbishing existing accommodation;
- the complete refurbishment of the physical education
department, including upgrade to 6 pupil changing rooms and
associated shower and toilet facilities, upgrade to staff changing
and toilet facilities and the creation of a disabled toilet and
changing facility for the department;
- the complete refurbishment of a further 6 toilet blocks and the
creation of a disabled toilet facility;
- review and upgrading of heating and radiators;
- review and upgrading of electrical and services
infrastructure;
- extensive works to ensure that the establishment is made
accessible and compliant with the requirements of relevant
Disability Discrimination legislation.
In particular, the works to improve accessibility involved:
- the installation of a ramp;
- review and upgrade of handrails in various areas;
- the undertaking of a programme to review and replace doors in
various areas.
Phase Two
Additional funding announced as part of the budget setting
process for 2012/13 - 2016/17 allows Phase Two works to
commence. This work will comprise:
- Major infrastructure improvement which is likely to include
electrical and data rewiring and upgrade, alarm and emergency
systems renewal, heating systems renewal, energy conservation and
other infrastructure and system efficiency improvements;
- Upgrade of 6 Craft, Design & Technology rooms;
- Upgrade of 3 Science laboratories;
- Upgrade of 2 Home Economics rooms.
Consultation
Extensive liaison will continue to take place between school
Management and Projects Support Team representatives to ensure that
the minimum of disruption is caused to learning and teaching at the
school throughout the construction works.
