Financial Challenges

Last updated | 15/05/2012

Perth & Kinross Council faces unprecedented challenges as a result of national budget cuts. Work has been ongoing for many months to explore options which will help find millions of pounds of savings.

In the years leading up to 2011, the Council’s budget increased each year in order to accommodate new legislation and the delivery of major government initiatives.  However, government funding will reduce significantly in future years.

At the same time demand for our services will continue to increase. To prepare for this the Council has introduced effective financial and workforce planning measures.

Our savings target is £22m by 2013/14. This is better than we anticipated, but clearly the Council still has to find significant savings over coming years.

There are no easy choices. We need to make big changes and find ways of delivering services at a much lower cost. We may have to change, reduce or even stop some services. We may also have to increase or introduce new charges to allow some services to continue.

This is your Council and we want to ensure that you:
• Know about the challenges we face and how we are managing them
• Had the opportunity to have your say and can see how your views had an impact on some of the important decisions that needed to be made.

On these web pages you can find out more about the challenges we face and how we plan to work with you to meet those challenges.  You can also find out more about the consultation and engagements events that were carried out by clicking on the ‘have your say’ link below.
