Best Bar None Awards 2008 launch

The Best Bar None Awards for 2008 will be launched on 22th April 2008.

The awards, now in their third year, are open to licensed premises in Perth city centre. They focus on public safety and customer care, and offer each applicant an opportunity to demonstrate that their premises is focused on issues like prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and prevention of public nuisance.

The launch will be held at the Sportsters, South Methven Street, Perth. Sportsters/ City won the Gold award last year and are keen to defend their title.

City manager Graham Cunningham said: "City is delighted to endorse the Best Bar None Awards Scheme to the local licensed trade. We were delighted to win last year's award. It meant we could we demonstrate to the public that we have reached and exceeded the required standard of care. For our customers, this affords them an assurance that our premises are safe and helps them make an informed choice when choosing where to be entertained."

Community Safety Partnership Convenor, Councillor Willie Robertson, added: “The Best Bar None Scheme is a very useful way of rewarding, recognising and promoting good practice in local licensed premises. The safety of people who come into the city centre to enjy themslevs is of paramount importance.

"A total of 14 local premises won awards in the scheme last year. I look forward to another successful year for the scheme."
