Placecheck roadworks in Bridge of Earn and Milnathort

As part of the Placecheck initiatives to enhance public spaces in Bridge of Earn and Milnathort, roadworks will get underway on Monday 6th February 2012 in both villages to improve road safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.

The improvements were identified by local communities through the Placecheck process and proposals have been discussed at public meetings and displayed at exhibitions.

In Bridge of Earn, where Placecheck began in 2010, a key area highlighted in community engagement was the need to improve visibility for pedestrians crossing local streets and vehicles coming out of side roads. Traffic speeds on Main Street and Edinburgh Road were also noted as a concern. The measures planned, involving the introduction of new and formal pavement build-outs will provide safer crossing points, shortening the distances pedestrians have to walk to cross roads and and making pedestrians and vehicles more conspicuous to road users generally.

Safety improvements for Milnathort

Similar measures are planned for Milnathort, whose Placecheck initiative started in 2009. New build-out areas will be created on New Road, Wester Loan, North Street and South Street to reduce crossing distances, improve safety for pedestrians and enhance visibility for drivers when emerging from side roads.

Further details of the measures are on display in Bridge of Earn at the Bridge of Earn Institute, Dunbarney Primary School or the Bowling Club, and in Milnathort at Loch Leven Community Campus, and The Orwell and Portmoak Church Office. Information is also available from the link on the right of this page.

Weather conditions permitting, work on the improvements in both locations is expected to take 12 weeks to complete. The Council regrets any inconvenience the works may cause however it is hoped that the improvements to safety will be welcomed by residents of both villages.
