Catchment area consultation for Perth schools

Last updated | 22/02/2008

Formal consultation on the catchment areas for three Perth primary schools will take place in the next few months, if a report to the next Lifelong Learning Committee on 16 January 2008 is approved.

Parents and residents will have the opportunity to take part in this statutory consultation regarding Inch View (the new school replacing the existing Caledonian Road primary school), Craigie and Moncreiffe Primary Schools' catchment areas ahead of the construction and opening of the new Inch View Primary School, to be built as part of the Council's Investment in Learning Programme.

The new primary school will be built on Glenearn Road, replacing Caledonian Road Primary School and Friarton Nursery. Its location puts it close to both Craigie and Moncreiffe Primaries and within the latter's present catchment area. These factors have informed the report's recommendations to review the three schools' catchment areas.

If the process is approved, during February letters will go out to parents, public notices will appear in the local press and public meetings will be held. These will set out a number of consultation options, including any proposals from consultees that are considered manageable by the Council. The consultation period would close at the end of April with final approval intended for August 2008. This will allow the Council to inform parents well in advance of the opening of Inch View Primary.

Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant, said: "This report marks the start of an important statutory consultation process which will give parents and local residents the chance to give their views on the future catchment areas for these three primary schools. Through a range of communications, we are trying to ensure that everyone concerned can take part and submit their response."
