Consultation in Almondbank for flood mitigation scheme proposals

Last updated | 22/02/2008

Perth & Kinross Council will consult with Almondbank residents next week on proposals for a flood mitigation scheme.

Almondbank has had a history of flooding from the River Almond and Pow Burn, with serious flooding events taking place in 1993 and 1999. In order to alleviate flooding in the town, the Council has commissioned consultants to investigate the extent of the problem and develop potential solutions. The current proposals comprise a series of flood defence barriers along the River Almond and Pow Burn.

The consultation will take the form of a public exhibition in the Bowling Club, off Main Street in Almondbank, between 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday 30 January 2008. A display will be set up at the venue and officers from The Environment Service at Perth & Kinross Council, and their consultant, Mouchel Group, will be in attendance to answer any questions.

A comment book will be made available to enable members of the public to provide written feedback on the scheme, highlight their concerns or raise any key issues. The responses will be included in a consultation report which will be circulated to all consultees to demonstrate that their views have been fully considered.

Councillor Alan Grant, Convener of the Environment Committee, said: "The views of residents of Almondbank are very important and their involvement is vital in helping us develop and implement the most appropriate flood mitigation scheme for the community. We are keen to receive comments from all those with an interest in the development of a flood mitigation scheme for Almondbank and hope local residents will come along to the exhibition to find out more."

Anyone wishing to obtain further information about the scheme should contact The Environment Service on 01738 477245 or 01738 477278.
