Licensing Board sets new licensing system fees

Last updated | 22/02/2008

Perth and Kinross Licensing Board has today announced the fees to be charged under the new national licensing system, which begins to come into effect from 1 February 2008. The fees were agreed at a special meeting of the Board held earlier this week.

Maximum fees have been fixed by the Scottish Government, with a direction that charges should only be enough to cover the cost of the licensing system. Council officers carried out an analysis of the costs relating to the system locally and recommended that the fee for a licence application be set at 72% of the maximum. Depending on the rateable value of the premises, the charge for such an application will be between £144 and £1442. The annual premises licence fee will be set at 80% of the maximum and range from £144 to £721.

The Licensing Board also agreed to review the fees in September 2009, at the end of the transition period for the new system.

Councillor Jack Coburn, Convener of the Licensing Board said: "I am pleased that we have been able to approve fees significantly lower than the maximum fixed by law. A careful assessment of the costs of administering the licensing system has made this possible. I would like to express my thanks to the Council's licensing team for undertaking the assessment . We will be keeping the scale of charges under review."
