Discover creative ways to develop learning

Last updated | 25/01/2012

Anyone involved in delivering education activities in Perth and Kinross is being invited to a series of free CPD (continuous professional development) sessions taking place around Perth and Kinross in the near future, designed to encourage creative approaches to learning.

Creativity has been recognised as a vital life skill and a valuable tool for teachers of all subject areas, within the new Curriculum for Excellence. Organised by Perth & Kinross Council's Cultural Development Service through the local Creative Learning Network and funded by Education Scotland, the events offer the chance for teachers, community learning workers and artists among many others to discover new resources, activities and opportunities to broaden their professional horizons and be inspired by fresh ways of working in the classroom and in other environments.

One of the highlights will be a talk about Creativity in Learning by Angus Farquhar, Creative Director of public arts organisation NVA, on Monday 30 January 2012 at 4.30pm in the North Inch Community Campus. NVA has created a number of award-winning, dynamic arts projects around Scotland reaching from Skye to Glen Lyon, collaborating with communities and organisations. Angus will consider, in what should be an interesting talk for all involved in formal and informal learning, how a similar level of creativity can be brought to education, with reference to NVA’s recent ‘Invisible College’ project.

Discover the rich resources at the Fair Maid's House

Wednesday 1st February will provide an opportunity between 4.30pm and 6.30pm to discover the treasure trove of resources at the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's recently refurbished base in Perth landmark the Fair Maid's House. Creative Connections: Linking People, Place & Planet is intended to help educators make connections between their own practice and the rich source of materials available at the RSGS education centre, whatever subject they cover.

Also forthcoming are: a session on learning activities relating to climate change on Tuesday 7th February, also at the Fair Maid's House; storytelling for all ages at Birnam Arts on Wednesday 8th February, and using traditional song and visual arts in group work on local heritage and history, at Glenearn Community Campus on Thursday 1st March.

All these CPD sessions are free to take part in, and all involved in education delivery are invited to attend. For further information or to book your place, please call 01738 477849 or email artsdev@pkc.gov.uk
