Key objects in the history of Kinross gifted to town's Museum
Thursday 12th January 2012 will see the handover of some
significant objects in the history of Kinross from Perth &
Kinross Council to Kinross Museum.
The items include Ordnance Survey maps, photographs of past
Provosts of Kinross and the Kinross Provost's Chair. The donation,
which follows the closure of the town's County Buildings in late
2011, will be marked with the presentation of a certificate to
Kinross Museum at Loch Leven Community Campus by Councillor Willie
Robertson, a Trustee of Kinross Museum, to Professor David Munro,
Chairman of the Kinross (Marshall) Museum Trust. Members of the
Friends of Kinross Museum will also be in attendance.
Kinross Museum is dedicated to the history and heritage of
Kinross-shire and is staffed entirely by volunteers. It holds a
unique collection of artefacts, archives, photographs and
publications including maps, title deeds, old postcards,
photographs, books and pamphlets.
Safeguarding artefacts for the future
Based at Loch Leven Community Campus, the Museum comprises an
exhibition area for changing displays in the public library and a
study room. Admission is free. It is supported by the Friends of
Kinross Museum and Kinross-shire Historical Society.
Councillor Robertson said: "I am delighted to mark the presentation
of these objects to Kinross Museum, which will provide the ideal
home for them to be displayed and used as part of the valuable
historical resources about the local area."
In expressing his gratitude to the Council, Professor Munro said:
"All of the items gifted to the Museum are an important part of the
heritage of this former county town, worth saving for future
generations to see."
