Statutory consultation proposed on changes to school catchment areas
Two reports going before the next Lifelong Learning Committee on Wednesday 11 January 2012 cover plans to formally consult on amendment of the catchment areas for two schools in Perth and Kinross.
Alterations to the catchment of Logiealmond Primary School and the secondary school catchment serving Arngask Primary School are being proposed in order to better assist parents in both areas.
For Logiealmond, the consultation will focus on a review of the part of the catchment area within the Glenalmond College site. Currently this site is split between the catchments for Logiealmond and Methven Primary Schools. The planned change would incorporate the entire site in the catchment area for Logiealmond, simplifying educational arrangements for parents working at Glenalmond, while also sustaining the school roll at this time at the primary school.
In relation to Arngask, the proposal is that its secondary school catchment area is altered from Perth Academy to Kinross High School. The Committee will hear this recognises the increasing numbers of placement requests from parents for Kinross High, as the area falls within the boundary area of Kinross and Kinross-shire and families are already accessing services and facilities there. It is also significantly closer in distance to Kinross.
Councillors will be asked to agree that formal consultation takes place, between 25 January and 23 March 2012 for Logiealmond and between 5 February and 30 March 2012 for Arngask. Public meetings would be held as part of the consultations and information would also be made available on the Council website.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: "Both these reports consider in detail the educational benefit of making changes to school catchment areas. They follow on from our review in 2010 of the school estate in Perth and Kinross which has as its focus giving pupils the best quality educational experience that meet their needs. If approved by the Committee, in the early months of 2012 we will be consulting with the communities concerned on these amendments."
