Perth & Kinross Council and VisitScotland have entered into a new partnership agreement which will develop and improve tourist information services in the area.
The agreement will see VisitScotland operate a network of seven Tourist Information Centres in Perth and Kinross. The agency will also provide additional information services to visitors through unstaffed information points and by using technology such as plasma screens with streaming video capabilities.
The Council’s grant will support the development of the area website www.perthshire.co.uk. In addition, Perth & Kinross Council will work with VisitScotland to develop marketing campaigns targeted at key markets for short breaks and activities.
Councillor John Kellas, Enterprise and Infrastructure Convener, said: “It is important that visitors to Perth and Kinross are aware of the huge range of activities, places of interest and accommodation choices which our area offers. This agreement sees the Council focusing its core financial support on tourist information services as this is an important promotional platform for businesses.
"Perth & Kinross Council and VisitScotland both recognise that visitors are looking for inspiration as well as information, so it is important that innovative ways of delivering tourist information are developed so visitors are encouraged to stay longer in the area and return in the future.
"We are committed to developing the tourism potential of Perth and Kinross and it is important that we have a strong working relationship with VisitScotland”.
Philip Riddle, Chief Executive of VisitScotland said: "The Partnership Agreement with Perth & Kinross Council is a great example of best practice. We have a positive and dynamic relationship with the Council and we work closely with them to maximise the economic impact of tourism to the local economy. I am delighted the Council places such importance on the quality of local information available to their visitors and that they intend to continue to take advantage of the marketing activity that VisitScotland offers.”
The partnership agreement was signed by Jim Irons, Depute Chief Executive, on behalf of Perth & Kinross Council and by Philip Riddle, Chief Executive of VisitScotland.
