Why not enjoy A Read in the Park?

As T in the Park takes place at Balado next weekend, a festival of a different kind will be coming to Perth's North Inch on Saturday 12 July 2008, providing a summer's day out for all the family.
'A Read in the Park' will focus on celebrating storytelling. The free event, organized by Perth & Kinross Council, is looking to attract families from across the local area. It is aimed at children of primary school ages and below, but there will be plenty on offer for everyone at the event which runs between 1pm and 4pm next Saturday.
Experienced Scottish storytellers will take part, and among the performers will be Sylvia Troon, whose tales focus strongly on Scottish folk tradition and cover a lively mix of fantasy and reality in engaging and humorous style.
Also appearing will be Ron Fairweather, who holds storytelling parties filled with magical tales, sing-along songs and fun filled games. He will be telling stories about football and Scottish heroes, with lots of opportunities for children to take part in the story. He said: “It’s great to have kids roaring like giants one minute and quiet as mice the next!”
In addition, Rhythm and Rhyme entertainers Jill Geary and Lynn McKay, who may already be familiar names from their sessions in local libraries will be performing. Rhythm and Rhyme is designed for babies and young children from four months old to pre-school age. Through sessions including games, music and dance, children are encouraged to enjoy themselves. Jill and Lynn both take sessions regularly, and are looking forward to taking their act into new territory.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: “I am delighted that we have been able to put together such an exciting event for families, and hope that as many people as possible can come down and enjoy what should be a lovely Saturday afternoon!”
