Achievements of young people celebrated at Spirit of Youth Awards

Perth and Kinross Youth Council recently celebrated the achievements of young people throughout Perth and Kinross at the 2008 Spirit of Youth Awards (Friday 13 June 2008).
In total, 37 awards sponsored by local individuals, businesses, Perth and Kinross Council and its partner agencies were presented, highlighting young people’s voluntary achievements in a range of fields including sport, music and democracy.
More than 150 people attended the awards ceremony and saw Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant, hand the overall Provost's Award to Mandy Shepherd for her contribution to developing a peer support group at the Community School of Auchterarder, alongside her voluntary work in the local primary school.

Best Secondary School Pupil Council - St Columba's High School (also sponsored by Councillor Liz Grant)
Group Achievement Award - City Base Volunteer Group (sponsored by Tayside Fire and Rescue)
Active Citizenship Award - Perth Academy Senior Leadership Team (sponsored by Perth and Kinross Council Education and Children's Services)
Environmental Contribution Group Award - Blairgowrie SCIVE-ECO Group (sponsored by Tayside Police)
Personal Achievement Award for 12-15 year olds - Calum Riley (this and the following three awards were all sponsored by Peter Vardy)
Special Endeavour Award, 12-15 - Loise Brett
Community Involvement Award, 12-15 - Keiran McMillan
Environmental Contribution Award, 12-15 - Xander McDade
Personal Achievement Award for 16-25 year olds - Mandy Shepherd (sponsored by Balhousie Glazing)
Special Endeavour Award, 16-25 - Morven MacKinnon (sponsored by St Johnstone in the Community)
Community Involvement Award, 16-25 - Ashleigh Godfrey (sponsored by Frances Allan)
Councillor Grant said: "It was an excellent evening where the diverse achievements of local young people were celebrated. The Spirit of Youth awards recognise the contribution they make to their communities in many different ways and it was a pleasure to find out more about the range of initiatives and activities that our young people are involved with."
