Green Flag pupils invited to Pitlochry Hydro Electric visitor centre

Last updated | 20/06/2008

Local pupils who have worked to gain their school Green Flag status were today (19 June) invited to Scottish Hydro Electric's visitor centre in Pitlochry to find out more about electricity generation, efficiency and biodiversity.

To gain an Eco Schools Green Flag a school has to develop projects to improve its "green" credentials. Pupils work in areas as energy efficiency, reduction in water consumption, waste and litter reduction and how to encourage biodviersity. Schools can achieve Bronze, Silver or Green Flag Awards.

So far 25% of Perth and Kinross schools have been awarded Green Flags.

Scottish Hydro Electric, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council and Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust, is backing the project by providing funding through the Scottish Hydro Electric Perth and Kinross Eco-Schools Action Fund.

To celebrate their success, pupils from Strone of Cally Primary School and Straloch Primary School. which have recently been given a Green Flag, were invited by Scottish Hydro Electric to visit its Pitlochry Visitor Centre.
