Last updated | 16/06/2008

Pupils from some of the top teams at the Perth and Kinross Primary Schools Orienteering Championships recently took part in the Scottish Schools Championships, on Friday 6 June 2008. Over 300 schools entered from all over Scotland competed at Drumpellier Park, Coatbridge, with 15 of them coming from the Perth and Kinross area. Some really excellent results were achieved by local pupils.

In the Primary 7 Girls category, local schools achieved four top-ten placings, with Isla Bendall from St Dominic’s Primary in Crieff, coming home in second place in 14 minutes, 13 seconds; only 31 seconds from getting a first place. Third in a time of 14.57 was Kenmore Primary, represented by Sarah Armstrong and Bronwyn Palmer. The Royal School of Dunkeld's entrants, Louise Cassels/Julia Cox and Jenny Taylor came in seventh and ninth respectively out of the 25 entries.

In the Primary 7 Boys category, there were 43 entries. Forgandenny Primary’s three teams, with an aggregate time of 52.36 came within 14 seconds of scooping the first prize. This was also the first time a Perth and Kinross school has featured in the team prizes. Flynn Sweeney and Fraser Martin came in fourth; David Low and Colin Gordon were sixth with Finlay Stewart and Liam Harper eleventh. There were also good results from Hill Primary in Blairgowrie and Moncreiffe Primary in Perth.

Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: "Congratulations to all the pupils who took part for their achievements at this national event. We are hoping next year that some of our secondary schools will also compete and potentially boost our successes even further."
