Provost to make first visit to Aschaffenburg

Last updated | 24/06/2008

Provost John Hulbert and his wife Sara will make their first visit to Perth’s twin town of Aschaffenburg this month as guests of the Oberbürgmeister, Klaus Herzog. Councillor Jack Coburn and his wife, Penny will accompany the Provost.

Also making the trip to the Bavarian town will be two Pipe Bands, the Blairgowrie and District Band (led by Andy Renwick) and Pitlochry’s Vale of Atholl Novice Pipe Band, trained and led by Gillie McNab.

The party will also include a small group of ladies of the Inner Link of Perth Club.

The Perthshire bands will have the chance to renew friendships with the Aschaffenburg Pipe Band, the Spessart Highlanders. The bands have provided training and encouragement to their Aschaffenburg colleagues over the years, and during the visit they will have the opportunity to perform together during the town’s folk festival.

Speaking ahead of the trip, Councillor Hulbert said: “I am delighted to be taking up Klaus Herzog’s invitation. While I am in Aschaffenburg I hope to discuss the way forward for our oldest twinning which celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2006. We will be considering projects in which our twinning links can become involved in the 800th Anniversary of Perth in 2010.”

The Provost and Councillor Coburn hope to use the visit to develop stronger economic links between the twin towns, and they will be attending presentations by senior German officials on the potential for tourist and economic development exchanges between Aschaffenburg and Perth.
