Public meetings as part of Perth catchment areas consultation
Perth & Kinross Council will be holding public meetings this month as part of statutory consultation on the catchment areas for three Perth primary schools.
A new nursery and primary school is currently being built on Glenearn Road as part of the Council's Investment in Learning Programme. Inch View Nursery and Primary School will replace Caledonian Road Primary School and Friarton Nursery once it opens in October 2009. The new school will be located close to Craigie and Moncreiffe Primary Schools.
The Council's Lifelong Learning Committee agreed in January 2008 that statutory consultation should be carried out to review and determine the catchment areas for Craigie, Moncreiffe and Inch View, given their proximity to one another.
The consultation has been preceded by discussions with the schools involved. Letters have been sent to all parents with children at Craigie, Moncreiffe, Caledonian Road and Friarton outlining the consultation, arrangements for the public meetings and where further information and maps of the current catchment areas can be viewed, including the Council website.
The public meetings will be held at the Grampian Hotel, York Place, Perth on Wednesday 11 June 2008, between 10am and 12noon, and between 7pm and 9pm. The meetings will be chaired by senior officials from Education and Children's Services, and will provide an opportunity for parents, carers and members of the public generally to find out more about the consultation, ask questions and, if they wish, submit their comments for consideration as part of the process.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: "Determining catchment areas is a significant issue for schools and for families, and in this instance we are looking at existing catchments in tandem with the requirements for Inch View Nursery and Primary School before it opens next year.
"The consultation we will be carrying out is intended to be as wide-ranging as possible. As a Council, we want to put in place arrangements which meet the needs both of families with children at these schools now and those likely to send their children to them in the future."
Councillor Bob Band, a Vice-Convener of Lifelong Learning and a local councillor in the Perth City South ward, added: "There are several options on the table for discussion and Perth & Kinross Council is determined to get it right for the people involved."
Comments on the consultation can be submitted in writing to Karen Robertson, Education and Children's Services, Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth PH1 5GD, by emailing karenrobertson@pkc.gov.uk or by phoning 01738 476216. The closing date for submissions is Friday 11 July 2008.
Further information on the consultation, including the catchment area maps, is available by contacting the Council on the details listed above, and also on the Council website.
