Read all about it!
Last updated | 20/06/2008
An exhibition in the AK Bell Library highlights what has made the news in Scotland over the last four centuries, and gives you the chance to make your own headlines.
The 'Read all about it!' exhibition gives a flavour of the Scottish press, from the first short lived paper of 1661 to news stories of today. While the look and feel of papers has changed in this time, the exhibition also shows that politics, scandal, sport, celebrities and crime have continued throughout the ages as sources of interest for readers.
As well as reading other people's news, you will have the chance to have a go at printing and making up your own headlines.
'Read all about it!' is a travelling exhibition from the National Library of Scotland, that celebrates 500 years of printing in Scotland. It is taking place in the Local Studies department of the AK Bell Library, runs until the 31st July and is free to view.
In addition the Local Studies department has some of its oldest local papers on display as well as annuals from the Perthshire Advertiser and Perthshire Constitutional. Both displays celebrate the important part newspapers have played over the last 500 years in everyday life.
The AK Bell Library is in York Place, Perth and can be contacted for further information on 01738 444949.
