Farmers Market cooking demos highlight Cittaslow message

At last Saturday's Perth Farmers Market, shoppers flocked to the cooking demonstration stall where chef Laurie Mill from Chef4U was cooking up produce from the market, including wild boar burgers and cock a leekie soup. The cooking demonstration will be a regular feature of the market in 2008 and is sponsored jointly by Cittaslow Perth and Slow Food Perth.
On hand to inform shoppers about these initiatives were Councillor Jack Coburn, Chair of the Cittaslow Perth Steering Group and Douglas Ritchie, Leader of Slow Food Perth.
Councillor Coburn said “This is a marvellous opportunity to get the Cittaslow message out. Perth Farmers’ Market is key in Perth’s Cittaslow accreditation and we are delighted to be working so closely with them.”
Slow Food Perth Leader, Douglas Ritchie, commented “The Slow Food philosophy is that the food we eat should taste good and be cleanly and fairly produced. This is already in practice at Perth Farmers’ Market which makes the market an ideal partner for Slow Food Perth.”
Roving Chef Graeme Pallister from 63 Tay Street was also on hand on Saturday morning, offering advice and tips to shoppers on how to cook their purchases.
Slow Food Perth have a programme of activities for 2008, including monthly Slow Food dinners, taking place on the first Tuesday of each month. These events are open to everyone. For further information, contact Douglas Ritchie on 01738 860523 or email douglas@tals.co.uk .
