New Depute Director (Education and Children's Services)

Perth & Kinross Council has announced that Maria Walker has been appointed as Depute Director (Education and Children's Services).
Maria joined Perth & Kinross Council in 1996, after starting her career as a primary school teacher and community education worker in both Tayside and Strathclyde regions.
In her current post of Head of Cultural and Community Services, Maria is responsible for cultural and community services including libraries, museums, arts, sports and community learning and development.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: "I am delighted with this appointment.
“We are committed to delivering excellent education and children’s services for the people of Perth & Kinross.
“Maria brings extensive experience, knowledge and commitment to the post of Depute Director. Her experience in progressing a wide ranging portfolio and her success at integrated working, both internally and with external partners, will be invaluable in her new post.
“Maria is taking up this post at a very exciting time when we are delivering modern new schools through our Investment in Learning programme.”
As with all posts at this level, the post was advertised nationally and the appointment was made following an extensive recruitment process. The recruitment panel included the Convener of Lifelong Learning, the Depute Chief Executive, the Executive Director (Education and Children’s Services), and Depute Director (Housing and Community Care)/Chief Social Worker.
