Nightclub licensing hours to be reviewed
Perth and Kinross Licensing Board has decided to review its policy on licensing hours for local nightclubs.
The review, which follows a request from nightclub operators for extended hours, will consider what time last orders for buying alcohol should be for nightclub premises on Friday and Saturday nights, and during the festive period. It will cover nightclubs only, not pubs or those premises with function areas.
As part of the review process, the Board is undertaking a public consultation on various options. They are:
- Status quo - the licensed hours and festive hours for nightclubs remain as per the Board's present policy.
- Experimental period during which extended hours for Friday and Saturday nights to 3am would be introduced until the end of January 2011. After that period a review would conducted and consideration given to a permanent change.
- Experimental period as above and a subsequent review, but with the extended hours able to continue whilst the review is ongoing.
- The policy on licensed hours is changed permanently to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.
- For festive hours an addition is made to the Board policy that where Christmas Eve and Hogmanay do not fall on a Friday or Saturday, the terminal hour for selling alcohol will be the same as on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Any other options and hours as the Board may determine.
The consultation will take place between 15 March and 23 April 2010. Letters have been sent to all interested parties informing them of the process and how they can make their opinions known.
Licensing Board Convener, Councillor Bob band, said: "At this stage, the Board is consulting on various options. No decision on those options has been taken. After the conclusion of the consultation period a report will be prepared for submission to the Board for a decision to be taken.
"Nightclub operators have requested a change, and it is only right that we consider their request as part of the Board's regular review of its policies. I would urge anyone with an interest to make their opinions known to the Board."

The present final times for the serving of alcohol in nightclubs is: Monday 11pm (2.30pm during the Festive Period); Tuesday 11pm (2.30am during FP); Wednesday 1.30am (2.30 FP); Thursday 2.30am (2.30am FP); Friday 2.30am (3am FP); Saturday 2.30am (3am FP); Sunday 1.30am (2.30am FP).
