Calcutta Cup comes to Kinross

Last updated | 27/05/2008

A special rugby festival today (Tuesday 27 May 2008) will see the Calcutta Cup on show in Kinross.

Organised by Kinross High School, the festival will give boys and girls of primary and secondary age the chance to enjoy the game and see for themselves the trophy, currently held by Scotland, which is presented every year to the winners of the Six Nations Championship match between Scotland and England.

Allan Munro, Scottish Rugby Board president, will be attending the festival to display the trophy and talk to pupils. Kinross High School will also be visiting Canada on a sports tour later this year, and Mr Munro will present the school's rugby captain with a donation towards the costs of the tour from Scottish Rugby and a local firm, as well as a signed Scotland shirt for auction at a fundraising dinner in September.

Lifelong Learning Vice-Convener, Councillor Bob Band said: "This will be an excellent event for pupils where they can take part in the exciting sport of rugby and see the Calcutta Cup first hand. I am sure it will be an enjoyable afternoon for everyone taking part."
