Last updated | 15/05/2008
Perth and Kinross Council is celebrating Adult Learners' Week 2008 (17-23 May) by holding a series of events to promote this year's theme for the initiative ‘Intercultural dialogue and creativity’.
Adult Learners' Week gives existing and new learners the opportunity to join in a range of activities. The events, organised by Education and Children's Services' Adult Learning Team will illustrate the cultural diversity of the learners in Perth and Kinross and how people are working together in a creative way.
The Take a Break group in Letham will present a drumming showcase as their contribution to Adult Learners' Week at the Letham Sports Centre on Tuesday 20 May from 12.45pm to 2.00pm. The drumming session, being held in conjunction with Perth College, will give the audience the chance to hear the group present an exciting performance of drumming and rhythm.
Also on Tuesday 20 May, the Learning Curve, at the A K Bell Library in Perth will be hosting a Scottish fun quiz between 6pm and 8pm, to raise awareness about what it means to be a citizen of Scotland today. The atmosphere will be informal with an emphasis on getting people together. Subjects will include famous Scots, myths, ghosts, inventions and Scottish places and language. For more information and to book a place in the crèche contact the Learning Curve on 01738 477092.
A World Café event will be held at the A K Bell Library on Thursday 22 May from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Learners are invited along to celebrate their achievements, meet other learners and give their opinion on the way ahead for Adult Learning in Perth and Kinross. All learners are welcome, snacks and refreshments will be available and everyone will get the chance to make new friends and swap ideas. For more information, please phone 01738 477028.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: ‘Adult Learners’ Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements and diversity of our learners. This year, with the expansion of work with people from other countries and cultures, there is a chance to develop a real dialogue between cultures, which can only broaden the experience of all our learners.’
Throughout Adult Learners’ Week, the Council's Adult Learning Team will be continuing to provide their regular programme including Adult Literacy and Numeracy groups, IT and other courses and sessions.
