Housing and Health Convener, Councillor Peter Barrett, has welcomed a report from the Council’s Chief Social Work Officer (CSWO) which says social work structures in Perth and Kinross are “robust” and working effectively.
The report by CSWO David Burke was considered at a recent meeting of the full Council.
Mr Burke said the Council has a Social Work Service workforce which is trained and equipped to deliver a robust and professional service, and that there are structures in place for the continued professional development of staff.
He said the information, skills and leadership exists to make the best use of resources within the Social Work Service. Services are committed to continuous improvement and to meeting the needs of service users, Mr Burke's report added.
Councillor Barrett said: "The position of CSWO is a statutory one which each Authority is obliged to have.
“This report should serve as an assurance to Council that the system of scrutiny and accountability operates well in Perth and Kinross. Members of the Council and indeed members of the public can clearly draw confidence from the conclusions of this report.
“I welcome all the hard work being done by our Social Work staff to make sure that the services we provide are the best that they can be.”
