Special conferences involve and inform carers

Last updated | 29/05/2008

Carers in Perth and Kinross are being kept informed on issues that affect them and involved in developing services to support them, through special conferences organised by Perth & Kinross Council.

As a result of discussions with carers in the area, two Carer Network Conferences are now being run each year in Perth. The conferences are intended to engage carers in the planning and development of any new services, so that these can meet their needs. The events are also designed to provide information and advice to carers on a range of key issues.

The most recent conference was held in early April at the Salutation Hotel, with around 70 people in attendance. The day began with an update on progress with the Carers Strategy and details of new services. Information was then given to carers on a range of topics from organisations including Tayside Police, Shared Care Scotland, Tayside Association for the Deaf, Independent Advocacy, the Norwell Clinic and Perth and Kinross Leisure. Carers then had the chance to take part in one of three workshops in the afternoon.

The Council will shortly be holding a seminar for working carers. This will take place on Wednesday 11 June between 5.30pm and 8.00pm, also at the Salutation Hotel. To book a place, please phone 0845 3011120.

The next Carers Network Conference will be held on Thursday 23 October 2008. If any carers would like to make an early booking for this, they should also phone 0845 3011120 to leave their details. More information will be provided nearer the time of the conference.
