Students design new emblem for Council services

Last updated | 28/05/2008

Students at Perth College have designed a new emblem for Perth & Kinross Council's Learning Disabilities Services - a butterfly.

Learning Disabilities Services have recently undergone a redesign to ensure that they fit the needs of people, rather than the other way around. The butterfly design was the idea of the Best Value Review Group that steered the redesign process, reflecting the aims of the services - from a chrysalis to a butterfly.

Perth College was asked to get involved, and a group of students with learning disabilities, their helpers and buddies came up with several ideas for the emblem. The winner was chosen by the Best Value Review Group for its bright, positive colours and clear design.

Housing and Health Convener, Councillor Peter Barrett, said: “This redesign of Learning Disability Services will focus on more ‘person-centred’ planning so that the service user is at the heart of the way Perth and Kinross delivers its services to people with learning disabilities.

"The award winning learning disabilities team are completely customer-focussed and put our users at the heart of everything we do. This is a radical new way of thinking and demonstrates a welcome shift in approach to assessment which will deliver better services and quality of life for local people with learning disabilities.

"I think the butterfly design captures the essense of this new approach and I would like to thank the Perth College students for coming up with it. They have done a great job and I am sure they will be very proud when they see the emblem on things like leaflets and newsletters."
