Perth and Kinross maintains high recycling rate
Perth & Kinross Council remains one of the best performing local authorities in Scotland for recycling, according to the latest figures from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
Earlier this month, SEPA released its official recycling figures for Scottish councils for the period April 2008 to June 2008. The Perth & Kinross Council area has a recycling and composting rate of 40.8%, placing us well above the Scottish average of 35.5%.
Environment Convener, Councillor Alan Grant said: "These encouraging figures are down to the hard work of the people of Perth and Kinross, together with the improvement in services provided by the Council. The increased access for residents includes the continued expansion of the new Kerbside Recycling Service, plus a number of new local Recycling Points throughout the area.
"To build on what has been achieved, and increase the recycling rate still further, we have to keep reducing the amount of waste we produce. There are simple steps we can all take, particularly during the festive season:
• Take reusable bags when out shopping and refuse plastic bags where possible.
• Buy vouchers or 'days out' certificates as gifts as these don't come heavily packaged and create less waste.
• Recycle Christmas cards and wrapping paper at Recycling Centres*
• Plan meals in advance to reduce food waste."

*WHSmith, TK Maxx, Marks and Spencer and Tesco will also be accepting Christmas cards for recycling.
