Best Bar None Award winners 2009

Last updated | 11/11/2009

The winners of this year’s Best Bar None Awards, which recognise good safety policy and customer care in Perth city centre licensed premises, were announced on Tuesday 10th November 2009 at Perth Concert Hall.

The Best Bar None scheme encourages professional management of licensed premises and aims to make the city centre a safe and welcoming place for people who visit it at night.

The awards, sponsored by Diageo, are an integral part of the Safer Cities Initiative across Scotland. Twenty Perth licensed premises applied for an award this year.

The project gives each licensed venue an opportunity to prove it meets standards which have been set in consultation with the government and the alcohol industry at a national level. It rewards safe and well-managed premises by issuing a display plaque which can be used to promote the venue.

The winners were:

Clubs and Bars section

Gold Award: Sandeman; Sportsters; Capital Asset, Foundry Bar, The Tavern, Twa Tams, That Bar
Silver: Ring O’ Bells, Brennans, Roca Blu
Bronze: Mondos, The Bothy

Pubs section

Silver Award: Moncrieff Arms, Royal Bar
Bronze: Corinna; Bee Bar, Christies Bar

Ian Campbell, Safer Cities Programme Manager, said: “I am delighted to say that gold award winners have doubled this year. Four new premises also applied this year for awards and all gained award status. We’ll now work with them, and all other premises, to further improve their safety and customer service policies so they can continue to do well in future awards."

Community Safety Partnership Convener, Councillor Willie Robertson, added: “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate this year's Best Bar None winners for the great work they are doing. These awards are an excellent way of recognising, promoting and rewarding good practice in local licensed premises. Not only are they contributing to the night-time economy of Perth in a very positive way but they are also ensuring the safety of people who come into the city centre to enjoy themselves."
