Best Bar None Awards 2010 launched

The Best Bar None Awards 2010 for Perth City Centre licensed premises have been launched.
The Awards, now in their fifth year, focus on public safety and customer care. They offer each applicant an opportunity to demonstrate that their premises is focused on important issues such as prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm. The awards are sponsored by Diageo.
The launch was held at gold award winning premises The Tavern, in South Street, Perth. Last year six premises gained gold award status, and other pubs and bars will be striving to improve their award status. This year the top premises in the two categories will go forward to represent Perth at the first National Best Bar None Awards early next year in Edinburgh.
Community Safety Partnership Vice Convenor, Councillor Elspeth Maclachlan, said: “The Best Bar None Scheme is a very useful way of rewarding, recognising and promoting good practice in local licensed premises. The safety of people who come into the city centre to enjoy themselves is of paramount importance. A total of 17 local premises won awards last year. I look forward to another successful year for the scheme."
The Tavern is owned by Centralglobal Ltd, and managing director John Bryden said: "We were delighted to host the launch of this excellent scheme for this year. Winning the gold award last year means we can demonstrate to the public that we have reached and exceeded the required standard of care. The award shows we take our customers welfare seriously and put into practice the social responsibility we are morally due to each and every customer who visits our establishment."
The awards are run nationally and now established a “Safe Pub Award” for Scotland.
