Best Bar None Awards launched for 2011

Last updated | 25/05/2011

The Best Bar None Awards 2011 for Perth City Centre licensed premises are being launched today, Wednesday 25th May 2011.

The Awards, now in their sixth year, focus on public safety and customer care. They offer each applicant an opportunity to demonstrate that their premises considers important issues such as prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm, as part of their operation. The awards are sponsored nationally by Diageo and funding locally is provided by Perth and Kinross Community Safety Partnership and Perth Common Good Fund.

The launch will be held at gold award winning and national finalist The Twa Tams in Perth's Scott Street. In 2010, 19 premises gained awards including eleven gold award winners. Pubs and bars will be striving to improve their award status again this year.

Rewarding and promoting good practice in licensed premises

Community Safety Partnership Convener, Councillor Willie Robertson, said: “The Best Bar None Scheme is a very useful way of rewarding, recognising and promoting good practice in local licensed premises, as was shown by the 19 premises who won last year. The safety of people who come into the city centre to enjoy themselves is of paramount importance. I look forward to another successful year for the scheme."

Twa Tams licensee Zoe Cooper said: "The Twa Tams is delighted to host the launch of this excellent scheme this year. Best Bar None is going from strength to strength within the licensing trade. Being a Gold Award winner last year means we are recognised for the high standard of care and safety of our customers. This rewards our customers with an overall enjoyable experience."

The awards are run nationally and a “Safe Pub Award” for Scotland has also been established.
