National safety awards achieved by more car parks

The number of car parks in Perth City Centre achieving the national 'Park Mark' safety status has significantly increased, with the support of the Perth Safer Cities Initiative.
Park Mark is a national award given by the police to car parks that achieve a high standard of safety. The scheme is designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks. The award is obtained by putting measures in place to deter criminal activity and create a safer environment for car park users.
The number of car parks in Perth achieving the Park Mark award has risen from three to nine, an increase of 200%. The six newly awarded facilities are at the South Inch, Canal Street, Charles Street, Scott Street, Mill Wynd and West Mill Street. Park Mark signs highlighting the award have now been strategically placed at these car parks, clearly visible to passing traffic.
Perth Safer Cities Initiative worked together in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council's Parking Services, Tayside Police and the British Parking Association to deliver the initiative. Funding was also provided by Perth Common Good Fund.
Councillor Willie Robertson, Chairman of Perth & Kinross Community Safety Partnership said: "It is important that residents and visitors alike feel safe when using car parks and the joint working by all the partners involved here has been very successful. Everyone concerned is pleased that local facilities are coming up to the standards required for Park Mark status and I hope this provides some additional reassurance for the public about safety in the Council's car parks.”
