City Status - News

We are delighted that Perth has been successful in winning the City
Status competition!
The
local authority for Perth's Canadian twin town
formally backed [PDF: 1.8Mb] the city status bid.
- Local businesses attended a special support event in Perth
Concert Hall on 29th September 2011.
- Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, gave her
support and endorsement to the bid at a national event held in
Glasgow on 28th September 2011.
- The Provost has written an
article [PDF: 6Kb] for the Royal Scottish
Geographical Society on progress regarding city status.
- Perth has appeared on BBC Two's major series 'Town' with the
city status bid prominent in the programme.
- Perth's bid to regain city status has been given the
backing of our Canadian twin town - Perth, Ontario.
- The possibility of more than one winner in the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee Competition has been welcomed. A letter to the Provost from
UK Cabinet Office Minister Mark Harper MP has noted Perth's
energetic campaign. Coverage of the news has appeared on

- The application for city status was delivered in person to
London by Provost John Hulbert on Thursday 26 May
2011. The application details Perth's claim for the
restoration of city status and highlights its ambition to be a

- A special charter was signed on Thursday 24 February 2011
by Scottish political party leaders at the Scottish Parliament, to
formally acknowledge their support for Perth's bid. The event got
